You’ve planned the ins and outs of the wedding reception, but have you considered the afterparty?

You’ve planned the ins and outs of the wedding reception, but have you considered the after-party? Often the after-party is a spontaneous migration to the closest bar or club, where the remaining wedding guests and the happy couple can keep the party going. You already have so many decisions to make, it can feel overwhelming for there to be yet another celebration that you have to plan. But the after-party may be the most fun part of your wedding, and it is best not to leave those details to chance.

Choose a Venue Ahead of Time

Chances are that your reception venue has a hard cut-off built into your contract. No matter how much fun you’re having, you and your guests are going to have to head elsewhere. Plan for this ahead of time. Scope out the local bars and clubs and see if they offer rental rooms. Perhaps you have a friend with a large home who would be willing to host. Even the hotel that you’ve secured for your out-of-town guests may have a small conference room you could rent out for the late night festivities. Remember, this is smaller than your reception since it tends to go later than many guests have the energy for.

Plan Signature Decor and Food

Don’t just grab the leftover centerpieces from your reception and plop them on some random bar table. This is a blank canvas; it doesn’t have to match your wedding. Feel free to let your honeymoon destination inspire your decoration and food choices. Remember that your reception dinner will be a delicious memory, so consider hiring a food truck for guests to fuel up between reception and after-party.

Hire a DJ to Keep the Energy Up

Most after-party music is left to the mercy of whoever gets to the club DJ or jukebox first, but you want music that fits your style and your special celebration. Hire a DJ to keep the tunes flowing at your uniquely-you after-party. That way, you know you can request all the hits that you wanted to dance to at your wedding but just couldn’t bust out in front of Grandma. As a plus, you can also let your DJ know to avoid any songs you absolutely hate, the ones you know someone at a random bar would probably ask for.
